Duran Duran

Duran Duran is a pop, new wave, and synth-pop group formed in Birmingham, England in 1978. The band's core lineup through their commercial peak included Simon Le Bon (vocals), Nick Rhodes (keyboards), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums), and Andy Taylor (guitar). They became one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1980s, with total record sales exceeding 100 million worldwide.

The group's early albums, including their self-titled debut and Rio, established their sound and visual identity during the MTV era. A string of hit singles brought them significant chart success across the United Kingdom, the United States, and beyond. Though the band experienced lineup changes and periods of reduced commercial activity through the 1990s and 2000s, they continued recording and touring across subsequent decades.

While Duran Duran originated in the United Kingdom and falls outside the primary geographic scope of East of the Groove, their records circulated throughout Eastern Europe during the 1980s, often in the form of licensed pressings issued by state-run labels in countries such as Poland and Yugoslavia. These regional pressings — produced under licensing arrangements that were common in the Eastern Bloc during this period — are among the items sought by collectors interested in how Western pop and new wave music was commercially distributed within socialist markets.
