Al Bano & Romina

Al Bano & Romina Power are an Italian pop duo formed in the early 1970s. Al Bano Carrisi was born on May 20, 1943, in Cellino San Marco, Brindisi, Italy; Romina Power was born on October 2, 1951, in Los Angeles, USA, the daughter of actors Tyrone Power and Linda Christian. The two first met in 1967 during the filming of the movie Nel Sole, which also provided Al Bano with his first major chart success. They married in 1970 and began collaborating professionally on a permanent basis in 1974, founding their own record label, Libra. Two singles preceded their debut album Atto I, released in 1975, and in 1976 the duo placed seventh at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The pair released a steady output of albums and singles through the late 1970s and into the 1980s, with many releases issued in both Italian and Spanish. Their commercial breakthrough came with the 1982 album Felicità, which placed four tracks on the charts simultaneously; the title track finished second at the Sanremo Festival. In 1984 they won Sanremo with Ci Sarà, and in 1985 they represented Italy at Eurovision with Magic, Oh Magic, again finishing seventh. The duo continued recording and performing until 1999, when they parted ways. Al Bano returned to a solo career, while Romina Power pursued acting and painting.

Collectors seeking out their records focus primarily on early Libra label pressings and Spanish-market releases, which circulated widely across Eastern Europe during the 1970s and 1980s and remain among the more sought-after Italian pop items from that era in the region.
